In 2008, UNESCO recognized San Miguel de Allende as a World Heritage Site, thanks to the historical and cultural importance of its Historic Center and its Sanctuary of Jesús Nazareno in Atotonilco, a San Miguel rural community located 15 minutes to the north, on the roas to Dolores Hidalgo.
In addition, more than 300 cultural events of various kinds are held through the year, highlighting the theater, dance and concerts, as well as international festivals such as the Guanajuato Film Festival, the Chamber Music Festival and the International Jazz and Blues Festival.
